Wikiwand Website & Extensions

  1. Get rid of the Facebook buttons

There's already a share button and it's distracting. Plus those buttons track your web usage and a lot of people aren't okay with that; especially considering how open wikipedia actually is. Don't ruin a good thing trying to "socialize" it all.

  2. Fix the conflict between WikiWand and HTTPS Everywhere.

There is a conflict between WikiWand and HTTPS Everywhere. When Https is enabled, the Wiki extension turns blank.

  3. Fix the Firefox problem when clicking on a Wikipedia link in Google search results causes Wikiwand to open in a new tab and in search tab.

It's broken. I tried installing the latest version, 3.1, since the response to a similar complaint implied that the problem has been fixed. However, in my particular circumstance, the problem persists.

I have configured Google search (and Firefox) so that clicking a link in search results causes the page to be opened in a new tab. That still happens. However, if the link is to a Wikipedia article, then the page also opens in the tab for the search results. (FWIW, the "Open Link in New Tab" option on the context menu for a link works correctly.)

  5. Fix a bug for urls with a slash (/)

For example : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC cannot be seen on wikiwand, it is always redirected to http://www.wikiwand.com/en/DC

  6. add disambigution feature for German, too

The disambigution feature does not work for other languages, at least not for German: http://www.wikiwand.com/de/Schweizer i.e. I CANNOT reach the disambigution page without manually editing the url. For me, this is a dealbreaker at the moment!

(Also, I think it should be more prominent, but that's a design question)

  7. Code highlight

Wikipedia has a lot of articles with code examples. Originally it highlighted, but wikiwand ignores it.

  9. The giant picture on some articles slows stuff down! Give an option to turn it off.

Might not be a problem for everyone, but it's really annoying when it causes scrolling to jitter or be sluggish.

  10. Fix handling of escaped carat in URL

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%5EEX - which is the encoded URL for "W^X" redirects to Wikiwand showing the following error:

400 W^EX is a JSON string, but the expected type is /type/key

It appears that the escaped carat ("^") is causing problems.

Bookmarking is now available in Wikiwand!
    1. To add the current page, click the “Bookmark” icon in the toolbar.
    2. To add a snippet of text to bookmarks, select some text and click the “Bookmark” icon that pops up on the left.
    3. You can now also hover over any link, and click “Add to bookmark” in the hovercard.

  13. Choose yout own font

Choose your own font (google font for example)

We’ve just added an option to customize the font (see the cogwheel on top). It only allows 2 fonts at the moment: Serif and Sans-Serif. We might add more in the future.

  14. Better math equations support!

I read a lot of math-related articles on Wiki. Thanks to WikiWand, the articles are so much better looking. It would be perfect though, if you could support MathJax, like the original wiki does. The math equations do get blurry, hurting an otherwise perfect reading experience.

  16. Reduce the line length in wider screens

The line length is often too wide for optimal legibility.

  19. include access to missing components such as coordinates

One of my common purposes for using Wikipedia is accessing the GPS coordinates of a location to see exactly where it is. Apparently I have to switch to the original Wiki page to access the coordinates link. Can this be added to the WikiWand styled page?

  20. Add simple English to the language options

I use the Simple English "language" of Wikipedia all the time with my ESL students, and it would be AWESOME if they could view the Simple English pages via Wikiwand.

    Hi Victor.
Simple English is actually fully supported in Wikiwand :)

    For an example:
    1. Please go to http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Education
    2. Click the (EN) icon in the toolbar
    3. Click “149 other languages”
    4. Search for, and select “Simple English”

If you wish to quickly access Simple English from the languages dropdown, you can add it as a preferred language:
    1. Go to any article on Wikiwand
    2. Click the (EN) icon in the toolbar
    3. Click “Language Preferences”
    4. Add “Simple English” to your language preferences
    5. Close the dialog
    6. Click the (EN) icon in the toolbar again. You should see “Simple English” in the dropdown, which will indicate if this article is available in Simple English (not all articles are).

    Hope this helps!
