The link to visit random articles should be improved. It currently also randomizes the language version of a random article that is pulled up as well. This is obviously inconvenient for the large number of languages Wikipedia has available, plus the fact that you simply cannot change the letter code designating the language in the URL and have it still be function.1 vote
The ‘Random Article’ link in the menu always uses the same language as the currently read article. It doesn’t randomize the language.
So, if you read an English article and press Random, it will lead to another English article. if you read an French article and press Random, it will lead to another French article.
Might not be a problem for everyone, but it's really annoying when it causes scrolling to jitter or be sluggish.6 votes
Disabling the cover photo is now possible!
Please click the cogwheel in the toolbar and choose the “Minimal” theme.
Show pop-ups of citations by placing the mouse over the third-bracketed numbers (instead of clicking on them)
Also, there is another VERY disturbing problem which needs to be FIXED. If there are two citations for the same statement, say and , I CAN click on , and THEN to see pop-ups for each of them, but I CANNOT see the pop-up of AFTER THAT again simply by clicking on it. Instead, I have to FIRST CLOSE the pop-up for the second citation, and THEN click on to see its pop-up.27 votes
Glad to report the popup behavior is now fixed.
I've always thought Wikipedia sorely lacks this feature of marking entries as favourite e.g. for later reading. This would be a great new functionality to add imo.13 votes
Bookmarking is now available in Wikiwand!
1. To add the current page, click the “Bookmark” icon in the toolbar.
2. To add a snippet of text to bookmarks, select some text and click the “Bookmark” icon that pops up on the left.
3. You can now also hover over any link, and click “Add to bookmark” in the hovercard.
Extension with a Wikipedia-to-Wikiwand switch button that enables one to read the Wikipedia article being browsed on Wikipedia on Wikiwand9 votes
The Wikiwand-Wikipedia switch is available on our Chrome extension (bottom-right corner while viewing Wikipedia or Wikiwand pages)
There is a conflict between WikiWand and HTTPS Everywhere. When Https is enabled, the Wiki extension turns blank.7 votes
Wikiwand loads slow (In comparison of other sites)!!
Why don't you minify HTML, CSS and compress images? Also go for removal of render blocking content, if possible!3 votes
We do concatenate and minify CSS, JS and images.
However, we take your comment very seriously, so we’ll figure out other ways to enhance the load time of Wikiwand.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%5EEX - which is the encoded URL for "W^X" redirects to Wikiwand showing the following error:
400 W^EX is a JSON string, but the expected type is /type/key
It appears that the escaped carat ("^") is causing problems.6 votes
Thanks for reporting this bug.
We just issued a fix.
I was on this article:
and I noticed every section was labeled "10 seconds". This seemed strange to me, so I viewed it on the normal Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofradioactiveisotopesbyhalf-life?oldformat=true) and I noticed that all of the sections had superscripts. Please fix this issue.9 votes
There's already a share button and it's distracting. Plus those buttons track your web usage and a lot of people aren't okay with that; especially considering how open wikipedia actually is. Don't ruin a good thing trying to "socialize" it all.7 votes
I was reading an article and when I clicked a word to read some more information, I got a grey screen with a "Suggest as cover photo" with two buttons. When I click on the close button it doesn't do anything and when I click the button yes or no it opens a new tab with the same content.
It showed up when I had Wikiwand version 3.2., so I installed it back to 3.1. and the problem still show up.3 votes
Add an option allowing users to change the text alignment of paragraphs. The option could be a switch with to values: align right and justify33 votes
You may now justify the text in Wikiwand!
Click the cogwheel icon in the toolbar → Justify Text
A link should be added to a disambiguation page where one exists.
For example, if I search for a 'Nickel' on Wikipedia I am directed to the page on the element - as I am on WikiWand - but there is also a link to the disambiguation page (useful if I had wanted to look up the coin). As far as I'm aware, this link does not exist in WikiWand.13 votes
The disambiguation icon should work perfectly well now.
Just go to an article:
and hover over the disambiguation icon, right next to the article title.
Allow user to order their language1 vote
The language order is automatically determined based on how many articles you’ve read in each languages. The most frequently used language will always appear on top.
Pages with kbd characters (such as http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Interrobang) fail to display any text in the <kbd> tags1 vote
fixed, thanks for reporting this
It's brilliant now, good job you guys. But it world be PERFECT if you can support every Mediawiki-Based websites!!!3 votes
Merge with a similar suggestion, please vote here: https://wikiwand.uservoice.com/admin/forums/247843-suggestions/suggestions/6356413-enable-wikiwand-for-any-mediawiki-site-not-just-w
I read a lot of math-related articles on Wiki. Thanks to WikiWand, the articles are so much better looking. It would be perfect though, if you could support MathJax, like the original wiki does. The math equations do get blurry, hurting an otherwise perfect reading experience.4 votes
Merging this suggestion with another one. Please vote for this feature here: https://wikiwand.uservoice.com/admin/forums/247843-suggestions/suggestions/6465884-render-math-with-mathjax
I think that the search bar is too big and takes too much place, also it really doesn't look nice IMO, maybe something more sober, and less invasive would be better. Thx,10 votes
We removed the search bar from the toolbar, now there’s a small search button instead.
Also, we have improved the search accuracy and display, give it a try!
Wikiwand for iPhone is finally here!
Download it from the App Store:
Please add an option or permanently alter the site/extension so that pages are served securely over HTTPS.
You should consider making it harder for government or private entities to intercept, track and profile the browsing history of people trying to educate themselves, which can be a major concern for visitors from some less democratic countries.
Thank you.39 votes
HTTPS is now enabled in Wikiwand – you can browser to any article using HTTPS!
Chrome Extension users are automatically redirected to read the article using HTTPS when arriving from an HTTPS website (such as Google Search).
